How to Become a Leader (in 10 easy steps)
I find it amazing how many books are in print regarding leadership. This blog has (hopefully) saved you long hours of reading those books to get to the core of leadership in the church. If you are a first-time reader, welcome! If you are a long-time reader, thanks for your time and comments! Either way, I want to explain how to become a leader - today.
I want to make becoming a leader really easy. So, let’s start with a definition that I really like:
Leadership is about creating change that you believe in. — Seth Godin
Leadership isn’t management. Management organizes resources through authority to get things done. They are responsible for taking a process or pattern and making everyone fit into it. When things don’t fit, such as a complaint or bad situation, they figure out the best way to resolve it. Managers don’t take action - they oversee it.
Leaders take action. They “create change.” Beyond that, they create change that they believe in. What do you believe in? Are you leading change in this area?
Find a cause, no matter how big or small, and make a change.
